Why I’m A Mom & Love Being A Mommmy

When I first found out I was pregnant, I was in complete shock. I didn’t know what to think. Of course, I was surely scared. I know I was 23 years, a young adult who had just gotten back into the swing of dating after just getting out of a long relationship that was going nowhere. After seeing a few guys, I found out in August 2013, and I was about 4 months pregnant. I first told a couple friends, and my brother. Then when it came to telling my mom, that was the worse. She was so angry and mad because I wasn’t in a relationship and not dating the guy. At first I thought it was someone that I went out with a few times, but it turned out not to be. I kind of wish it would’ve been him, because things would have been much easier than the guy that actually is his father. Yeah, his father ended up being what my biological dad was like. A waste of time, I’ll just say that. But that’s another story that I really don’t want to get into. Anyway, after a while, my mom finally processed it all, but was still kind of roller coaster. One day, she would be mad and trying to kick me out. Then the next, we would be baby clothes shopping, literally that’s what happened. But she finally got so excited and the rest of my family was and everything was good. Mom had decided she wanted to be called Mammy and she loves being a Mammy. Mom and I even compromised on a name, Donovan Jonas Marshall. The first three letter came from my grandpa’s name, which was Donald, then Jonas partly came from the Jonas Brothers and also all the boys in the family have a name that starts with J and also my grandma’s middle name is Jo, so the name was perfect. My original due date was February 25th of 2014, but I was induced a week early at 39 weeks, so brother could stay and see him be born. But that didn’t happen, because he had to get back to his base. He was in the Marines at the time. Donovan Jonas Marshall was born February 19th, 2014 at 6:33 p.m. weighing 7 pounds 19 1/2 ounces and 21 inches long. He was the greatest thing to ever happen to me. That moment I became his mother, I couldn’t have been more happier. We continued to live at my mom’s house, but I knew we couldn’t stay there forever, so when he was 5 months old, we finally moved into our own apartment at an apartment complex that my friend lived at, so I wasn’t completely alone. It felt so exhilarating and freeing being in our own little place. I’m an independent single mother who works hard to do the best she can. I’m so proud of the mother I’ve become and really proud of how smart Donovan is. He truly amazes me every day, because he learns something new everyday. I love how he can say big words just perfectly, and he’s recognizing more things around him and knowing what they are. I love working with him and teaching him new things. I truly believe that Donovan is special and he is meant to do great things. He has the most amazing smile that can light up any room. He can make you laugh at any given time. As he is about to approach 3 years old, I’m excited to see how much more he will learn and seeing what he will become. I love being his mommy, and I love that he’s my son. I can’t wait to see what our future holds.
